:: INSTALL_PROTOCOL

Install memory
where your agents live.

Run the AutoMem service where you want it, then connect Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, OpenClaw, and Hermes to that endpoint. The installer checks the service and shows the agent configuration before writing it.

:: INSTALL_STEPS

What the installer does

Four steps from a single command to connected agents.

1

Detect environment

Checks for Node, npm, Docker, Git, and supported agents.

2

Choose deployment

You pick Local, Railway, InstaPods, or Existing Endpoint.

3

Provision AutoMem

Starts the local or hosted service, or checks the endpoint you provide.

4

Wire MCP clients

Generates config and shows you how to connect your agents.

:: SETUP_PATHS

Choose where the service runs and where it computes embeddings. The setup guide covers both decisions before you store your first memory.

remote server

Hosted Cloud

Deploy on InstaPods or Railway. Use the resulting API URL and token to connect your agents.

curl -fsSL get.automem.ai | AUTOMEM_INSTALL_TARGET=cloud sh
your machine

Local Docker

Run the API, graph database, and vector store with Docker Compose on your machine.

curl -fsSL get.automem.ai | AUTOMEM_INSTALL_TARGET=local sh
your instance

Existing Endpoint

Use a running AutoMem instance you already control. The wizard verifies it before touching agent configuration.

curl -fsSL get.automem.ai | AUTOMEM_INSTALL_TARGET=existing AUTOMEM_API_URL=https://memory.example sh
:: AGENT_TARGETS

Review before write.

The installer writes environment values, then delegates to the existing platform installers. Config files are backed up before changes, and platforms with unreliable automatic config still print exact manual snippets.
